21 Years and Counting
Well, I’m officially 21 years old as of two days ago. January 15th was the big day. For someone who isn’t a citizen of the US (and who don’t already know,) 21 is an “important” birthday because it means that, among other things, I can legally purchase and consume alcohol. Personally, I think age is a ridiculous metric to use for this, but I suppose that measures such as “maturity” and “responsibility” are a little harder to police. It was very strange to be unable to enter bars or order alcohol on the 14th, and then suddenly have full privileges on the 15th. Apparently, I was a much different person after that mystical time had passed.
I had a great time. I went up to Big Sky, Montana to ski for several days (14th - 15th) with my friend Lauren from school. The snow was really great, especially for the second day when about 8-10 inches of fresh powder got dumped on top of the mountain. I don’t get the opportunity to go skiing as much since I went to college, so it’s nice to come back to a mountainous state.
After skiing on the 15th, Lauren and I drove down to Bozeman and met up with my friend Tom at MSU. We went out to dinner at the Aleworks and then headed back to Tom’s apartment, where various other friends (new and old) also showed up to help us celebrate. I spent the night on a couch at the college and woke up the next morning with a very sore neck. All in all, it was really fun.
I’m mostly just glad that this long-awaited and largely-arbitrary milestone has been passed. Hooray!
